2. In 2009, for the first time ever, more public-sector employees (7.9 million) belonged to a union than did private-sector employees (7.4 million) despite there being five times more wage and salary workers in the private sector.
3. A third of all union jobs are in Education
4. 33 percent of the education industry is unionized
5. The union boss, Andy Stern, was appointed to be on the president’s debt commission.
It all makes sense, doesn’t it?
Now, what do you think the chance are that the stimulus funds for education will be made permanent?

The pain of deflating this bubble is being felt most acutely in the California public university system, where an impossible mandate (to provide a free, quality college education to everybody) can no longer be sustained, but where the consumers have been so completely shielded from actual costs for so long that the only real solution is for the system to collapse. But the whole country is headed in that direction, for better (if you're a student) or worse (if you're a flunky). Mish Shedlock concludes in his woolly way:
Funding schemes, loan guarantees, influence pedaling, and especially government meddling have combined to make education a great deal for recruiters, administrators, professors, and staff.

Webb wants one-time tax on executive bonuses

U.S. Sen. Jim Webb, D-Va., wants his proposal to levy a 50 percent tax on the bonuses of some corporate executives added to a jobs bill now making its way through Congress.
The proposal by Webb and U.S. Sen. Barbara Boxer, D-Calif., would collect the tax on bonuses larger than $400,000 that were paid in 2009 by companies that received at least $5 billion from the $700 billion federal bailout - known as the Troubled Asset Relief Program, or TARP.

This E-911 tax was established to fund the equipment and dedicated staff of the public safety answering points (PSAPs) where 911 calls are received. But the proposed tax increase is being used for something completely unrelated.
The tax is deceiving to consumers. They are led to believe they are funding 911-related services when they would really be funding an array of benefits for a wide variety of state and local government employees.
This is simply a shell game to take more money from Virginians for unrelated programs.
This bad idea has been rejected before. Nearly identical legislation to increase tax on insurance premiums and alarm monitoring services has been soundly defeated three years in a row.
This tax increase should be rejected by the budget conferees.
It’s critical that we get as many Virginians as possible to send a clear message to the general assembly not to impose huge new hidden taxes and fees, including the phone tax.

Tonight, Barack Obama will host ten House Democrats who voted against the health care bill in November at the White House; he's obviously trying to persuade them to switch their votes to yes. One of the ten is Jim Matheson of Utah. The White House just sent out a press release announcing that today President Obama nominated Matheson's brother Scott M. Matheson, Jr. to the United States Court of Appeals for the Tenth Circuit.

Tired of the Coffee Party and the Tea Party? We’re the newest game in town!
I woke up this morning and realized I didn’t want tea or coffee. I wanted hot cocoa!
So I turned on my computer and in a few minutes founded a new political movement — The Cocoa Party!
Yes, it was that simple.
Then I got one of my friends at the newspaper where I used to work to violate all professional journalistic ethics by writing a puff-piece about me without revealing that I used to work there. Thanks!

Ms. Park and chapter organizers said they would invite Tea Party members to join their Coffee counterparts in discussions. “We need to roll up our sleeves, put our heads together and work it out,” she said. “That’s, to me, an American way of doing this.”
In fact, a simple internet search (which the NY Times apparently is not capable of doing) reveals that Park organized the Coffee Party for the specific purpose of undermining the Tea Party movement.
Park is a former Strategy Analyst at the NY Times who was one of organizers and operators of the United for Obama video channel at YouTube:
A Korean-American filmmaker is in charge of creating video clips that are playing a role in increasing support for Senator Barack Obama, the frontrunner for the 2008 Democratic presidential nomination.
"I found that people have little understanding of the change that Senator Barack Obama is advocating. I thought from my experience in using videos for civil movements that videos would be the best way to promote the need for change and for Obama. That's why I decided to work for the Obama campaign," Annabel Park said.
Joining the contest in December last year as chief of a promotional video team, Park has produced some 20 five-minute video clips which have generated a positive response. A clip interviewing actress Kelly Hu in support of the senator was viewed some 10,000 times, and a music video called "Oh Bama" [embed below, Park appears at 1:35]] drew wide attention. She has also produced Spanish-language videos to draw support from Hispanics.
The 40-year-old Park is leading an Obama promotional section on video-sharing site YouTube (www.youtube.com/unitedforobama) with around 10 other volunteers.

Obama to deliver health care .......
THE CHICAGO WAY....
The president is taking this one last chance to push his health care agenda, which by his own estimate will cost about $1 trillion over 10 years. That's money America doesn't have, but he could probably just print some more.
Obama will be in his element, talking and lecturing, the law professor framing the debate. He'll spend hours being seen as reasonable. The Republicans will balk and the president will shrug. He'll sigh and say he tried to reason with them but they refused.
Then once the cameras are turned off, he'll take out the baseball bat and explain how things get done The Chicago Way.
It's all about muscle.. an acolyte of the Chicago Democratic machine, he's seen muscle at work in Daleyland. Now he's in the White House, and he's going to use muscle too.
