Another District 11 Update

from Anthony Bedell

1. No winner has been declared in the 11th Congressional District Election, which remains one of the closest elections in the country. Three days after the closing of the polls, the difference in votes for Keith Fimian and Gerald Connolly is less than 1,000 votes out of over 220,000 cast in the election -- well within the margin for a recount in Virginia.

2. Right now, each locality in the 11th Congressional District is winding up a post-election canvass, including counting provisional ballots. The canvass is a legal process in which local officials literally reconstruct the results of the election one voting machine and one precinct at a time, to ensure that all votes validly cast in the election are counted fairly and accurately. Once the local canvass is finished, including provisional ballots, the local officials will send the election returns to Richmond for further review by state election officials, who will certify the official results of the election later this month.

3. The canvass is a public process, and our observers have been monitoring it since the minute it began.

4. There are several developments in the Fimian - Connolly race that may call into question the accuracy of the current vote totals.

Here are the issues that are being looked at:

  • In Fairfax County, the voting machines failed to register votes from over 800 ballots, including 106 in the Sideburn precinct alone. (Keith Fimian won that precinct 58% - 40%.) In Prince William County, the machines failed to register votes on more than 200 additional ballots.
  • In several precincts, there were actually more votes than voters. That is, voting machines reported a higher number of votes than the number of voters marked on the pollbooks as having voted in the election.
  • As of Election Day, there were over 1,150 absentee ballots that had been mailed out to military and other overseas voters but had yet to be received back in the 11th Congressional District.
  • We also understand that officials in Prince William County rejected over 280 absentee ballots, with another 200-300 absentee ballots being rejected in Fairfax County.

So the process is unfolding as set forth in the law and these are some of the questions that are being considered at this time.

VA 11 UPDATE

From the Fimian Campaign

As you know, we are locked in one of the closest congressional elections in the country. The unofficial election night returns showed a razor-thin difference of about 400 votes between the candidates out of over 220,000 cast. Today we have been working through the post-election canvass process in which local elections officials scrub and double-check the unofficial election night totals, review provisional ballots, and send their results to Richmond for certification by state officials later this month. At this minute, we still do not know what those results will be.
The post-election process is first and foremost a legal process which aims to ensure that all ballots lawfully cast in the election are counted, and that the resulting votes are tabulated accurately. This process has required us to hire an experienced election lawyer and continue paying staff to engage a strike force of several dozen volunteers who are vigilantly monitoring the process for us.

Keith has been very grateful for your support of his message of creating jobs and reducing spending, but now we need to turn to you again and ask for an urgent on-line contribution to pay campaign expenses to support our post-election efforts and bring home a hard-fought victory.

Virginia District 11 Results in Limbo...

This is what happens when "someone" screws with the machines.

washington
examiner
In the still-undecided congressional race between incumbent Democrat Gerald Connolly and Republican challenger Keith Fimian, both sides on Wednesday claimed they would ultimately prevail in a contest that could come down to a recount.

Some provisional ballots, those cast by voters who had enCheck Spelling

countered a problem at the polls, were still being counted Wednesday and precinct totals were being double-checked. But the Connolly campaign claimed the math was on their side and Connolly delivered what amounted to a victory speech late Tuesday, even though Fimian has not yet conceded the race.

Depending on what vote tallies reveal, a recount is a distinct possibility. There are no automatic recounts in the state. The losing candidate can request one after the election results are certified if the margin is 1 percent or less of the total votes cast in the race.

But Tim Edson, Fimian's campaign manager, stressed that their focus on Wednesday was simply on getting the outstanding votes counted.

"We're optimistic that when all the votes are counted that Keith will be the next congressman for the 11th District," he said.

The board of elections will meet to certify the election results on Nov. 22. Fimian would have until Dec. 2

This was a Tsunami

The North Carolina Legislature is Republican for the first time since 1870. Yes, that is Eighteen Seventy.

The Alabama Legislature is Republican for the first time since 1876.

For those saying this is nothing because it is the South, consider these:

The entire Wisconsin and New Hampshire legislatures have flipped to the GOP by wide margins.

The State Houses in Indiana, Pennsylvania, Michigan, Ohio, Iowa, Montana, and Colorado flipped to the GOP.

The Maine and Minnesota Senates flipped to the GOP.

The Texas and Tennessee Houses went from virtually tied to massive Republican gains. The gains in Texas were so big that the Republicans no longer need the Democrats to get state constitutional amendments out of the state legislature.

These gains go all the way down to the municipal level across the nation. That did not happen even in 1994.

Voting Machines "Malfunctioned" in Fairfax

I got this email late last night....
Team Fairfax-

Here is a quick update on the race in the 11th Congressional District. Currently Keith Fimian sits 487 votes down in the total count. There are currently two machines in two different precincts in Fairfax County that malfuncioned. They are sealed and are locked up in the Fairfax County Government Center.

Those machines will be broken open and counted at 8AM and once that process is completed and verified, we will then proceed to the 9AM canvass. Once the canvass is complete, and the count becomes official, we will then determine what the next steps are per a recount.

Stay tuned, we will have an update as soon as possible.

Respectfully,

Anthony Bedell

I wonder if the SEIU was in charge of these machines too..

Gerry Connolly Makes a Fool of Himself... Again

Proves to the world he's a moron...

via HOTAIR

CONNOLLY: I’m telling you, they ( Republicans) don’t have an open mind. They have publicly expressed that they do not favor — you know, they’re all for deficit reduction as long as anything having to do with revenue is off the table. Can we get to serious deficit reduction — change that trajectory you talked about — if we eliminate half of the ledger sheet?

BERNANKE: Well, theoretically you could if you cut enough, but it would be very difficult to do that.

CONNOLLY: Is there enough spending to be cut?

BERNANKE: Of course! I mean … [laughs]

CONNOLLY: National defense, homeland security?

BERNANKE: That’s your judgment, that’s the Congress’ judgment. That’s not my judgment.

CONNOLLY: Ah. Um … it must be nice to be an economist.

Famous Cows Endorse Connolly

A group of famous cows have endorsed Gerry Connolly for re-election. The endorsement comes on the heels of a flurry of press releases about Connolly's record of trading earmarks for campaign contributions.

Cows have been slowly becoming politically aware of their individual rights and have been watching Congress for legislators who support bovine rights. Congressman Connolly is the first such endorsement in Virginia because of his full-throated support for pork.

Daisy the Cow, spokesCow for Cows for Connolly PAC said, "Moooo. Geeerrrry Coooonnoooly's support for pork is a wonderful idea. We support all career poiticians who favor pork over everything else. We like Geeeeerry Coooonnnolly's platfrom. Pork for Breakfast. Pork for Lunch. Pork for Dinner. Pork for all contributors. Also Cooooonnolly's supports a ban on fundraisers at Steakhouses. Moooo for Connolly."

While Virginia might be known for its Smithfield Hams, the northern Virginia Congressman is known for his $3,000,000,000+ in pork for his district. More pork than all other Virginia congressmen combined!

Many cows have begun maxing out their contributions to Rep. Connolly. They’re hoping he will continue his tradition of paying back supporters by submitting additional pork for their industries.

Fimian Vows to Repeal Pelosi-Connolly Healthcare Bill

Fairfax, VA – Keith Fimian, Republican candidate for Congress (VA-11) released the following statement in response to Congress passing the Democrats' healthcare legislation:

“The American people have repeatedly rejected the Democrats’ plan to force a government takeover of healthcare and put 1/6 of our nation’s economy under government control,” Fimian said. “Gerry Connolly has cast his lot with Nancy Pelosi, against the will of his constituents and the American people.

This disastrous healthcare legislation, loaded with backroom deals, special interest giveaways, mandates and $569 billion in tax hikes, will explode an already catastrophic deficit, destroy jobs, and devastate the best healthcare system in the world,” Fimian said. “When I am elected to Congress, I will immediately introduce legislation to repeal this bill.

“Republicans offered real solutions to the problems with our healthcare system, but they were rejected. It is clear that Pelosi and Connolly aren’t interested in truly fixing problems with our healthcare system, but only in achieving an agenda-driven outcome and declaring a political victory,” Fimian added.

The $1.2 trillion price tag includes over $569 billion in tax increases, new taxes on middle class families making $66,000 or more per year, $53 billion in raids on social security, and $200 billion in cuts to Medicare for seniors. It also sends $436 billion directly to insurance companies. The IRS will need to hire 16,500 new workers just to enforce all the new taxes and penalties this legislation will bring.

“Our health care system is the best in the world because it fosters competition, innovation and excellence, and consumers have real choices regarding their medical care. By no means is it perfect, but we should work to improve what we have by addressing wellness, one of healthcare’s most central issues, by lowering the cost of insurance through increased competition, by addressing portability, by allowing insurance to be purchased across state lines, and by pursuing tort reform that eliminates frivolous law suits that drive up the cost of medical care,” Fimian said. “I look forward to implementing these solutions in Congress and repealing this disastrous legislation Democrats have forced on the American people.

Eric Cantor Endorses Keith Fimian

The number two ranking Republican in the House of Representatives, Congressman Eric Cantor (VA-7), announced his endorsement of Keith Fimian for Congress.

Congressman Cantor said, "We are in a battle for the direction of our country. That's why I am enthusiastically endorsing Keith Fimian for Congress. Keith Fimian is a passionate believer in smaller, more effective government. He is a conservative who will be a champion for Northern Virginia families. His real world business experience is needed in Congress to get our economy moving, create jobs, battle wasteful spending and hold the line on taxes. He's the best choice for Congress in the 11th District.”

Cantor joins a growing number of Republicans supporting Keith Fimian’s campaign for Congress. Fimian has also been recognized by the National Republican Congressional Committee’s “Young Guns” program as one of the emerging Republican challengers who can defeat a Democrat incumbent.
“I am honored by Eric Cantor’s support. He has been a champion for the principles of lower taxes and responsible restraints on spending and his support means a lot. He realizes, as I do, that we cannot continue down this path of reckless deficit spending that Gerry Connolly so jubilantly embraces.” said Keith Fimian.

Republican Keith Fimian is running for Congress against Democrat Gerry Connolly in Virginia’s 11th District. Fimian’s platform includes creating jobs, holding the line on taxes and putting the breaks on out-of-control deficit spending.
